National Government to Facelift Bungoma KMTC Campus

By Mathews Bulimo

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Bungoma branch is set to receive an infrastructural facelift from national government through the National Treasury.

Speaking to Education News at the institution on his tour of Bungoma County to ascertain the progress of various government projects, the Treasury Cabinet Administrative Secretary (CAS) Erick Wafukho Simiyu noted that the institution needed more classrooms for it to be able to train more medical professionals.

He was accompanied by the Bungoma KMTC campus Chief Principal Mrs. Elizabeth Ndura and County Commissioner Samuel Kimiti, where he took a tour of a stalled two-storey building which according to the  head of  medical institution, will require an estimate Sh8 million to get to completion.

The CAS noted that President Uhuru Kenyatta is keen on ensuring that all government projects in Bungoma County are completed for efficient service delivery to its Citizens.

Mrs. Ndura mentioned that the college had about 500 students who are drawn from all over the country. She added that if the building is completed before the intake that would follow, their enrolment potential will grow to 800.

The Principal said that the building was an initiative by the Kanduyi Constituency Member of Parliament Hon. Wafula Wamunyinyi through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) However, it stalled due to lack of funds.

The medical institution was inaugurated in the year 2011.
