Situated one kilometre from Makutano – Kacheliba Road, Nasokol Girls High school has gone modern in their method of cooking by embracing new technology.

The school now uses a Power Gas cylinder which was installed in the school four months ago.

“The traditional method of using firewood for cooking in the school is now a thing of the past,” said Mr. Alkaman Kimobo, a chef at the school.

Mr. Kimobo further said that preparation of food no longer took hours as compared to before and he was happy that the soot and smoke experienced during the use of firewood was no more.

The chef added that usage of the gas had increased efficiency in time management as food was served at the right time and there was no accumulation of dirt and residue after cooking.

Kimobo thanked the school Principal Susan Obiri for initiating usage of gas at the school.

“The power gas has greatly improved the school environment unlike before where firewood polluted the environment,” said Mr. Kimobo.

Nasokol Girls’ High School becomes the first pilot school to use the Power Gas cylinders in West Pokot county.

Many other institutions are now frequenting the school for bench marking about usage of gas.
