A dire shortage of classrooms, teaching materials, and teachers has crippled learning at Ngendalel primary school in Angata Barrikoi, Narok County.
This has raised serious concerns about the future of hundreds of learners, with stakeholders appealing for urgent intervention.
The school’s headteacher, Elisha Onyango, has sounded the alarm, calling for urgent government intervention to salvage the situation.
“The shortage of classrooms and learning materials has greatly disrupted academic activities. We are struggling to offer quality education under these conditions,” said Onyango, speaking at the school compound.
He added that the few teachers available are overstretched and unable to handle the growing number of pupils effectively.
“Our teachers are overwhelmed. They are doing more than one person’s job every day, and this is not sustainable. Parents here cannot afford to hire extra teachers, so we need the government’s support immediately,” he pleaded.

The head teacher also highlighted a critical lack of sanitation facilities, warning that the health of students is at risk.
“We do not have enough toilets, and this exposes our children to diseases that thrive in unhygienic conditions. It’s a serious public health concern,” he added.
In addition to the infrastructural and staffing problems, Onyango raised the alarm over growing insecurity in the area, calling for the construction of a police post near the school.
“Insecurity has become a major threat to education here. This school has suffered frequent disruptions, and unless a police post is established nearby, learning will remain under constant threat,” he said.
Angata Barrikoi has long grappled with insecurity, largely fueled by ongoing land ownership disputes. These conflicts have not only endangered residents but have also disrupted schooling and other essential services.
As the crisis deepens, calls are growing for both county and national governments to act swiftly to secure the future of learners in this marginalized region.
