Narok County Women Representative Rebecca Tonkei has urged residents to provide equal educational opportunities to all children, regardless of gender.
Speaking during a public address in the Mosiro area, Tonkei emphasized the importance of inclusivity in education, noting that every child deserves a fair chance to pursue their academic dreams.
“All children are equal, and none should be discriminated against in any way,” said Tonkei.
“Every child has the potential to bring about change in this country and contribute to national development.”
Tonkei also warned against gender-based discrimination, describing it as an outdated practice and a violation of the Constitution.
“Discrimination is not only harmful but also unconstitutional. We must move forward and ensure that every child, boy or girl, gets a chance to succeed,” she added.
She reaffirmed her commitment to promoting education in the county and called on stakeholders to work together to support this goal.

“I remain fully committed to supporting education in our county. Let us come together as leaders, parents, and community members to ensure no child is left behind.”
Her remarks come amid rising concerns over the high number of students dropping out of school in the region. Poverty, teenage pregnancies, early marriages, and adverse weather conditions have been cited as key contributing factors.
Church leaders in the area echoed Tonkei’s sentiments, urging residents to abandon harmful traditional practices and embrace progress.
“Let us do away with outdated customs that deny our children their future,” said one local church leader. “Education is the path to a better tomorrow for our communities.”
