Parents in Narok County have been urged to avoid excessive spending during the festive season and instead prioritise their children’s education.

Narok County Executive for Education Robert Simotwo cautioned that many parents tend to misuse money during the holidays, forgetting to set aside school fees. Speaking in the Motony area of West Narok, he encouraged families to stick to their budgets to ensure smooth learning for their children when schools reopen.

“Parents spend a lot during the festive period without remembering school fees. We are asking them to plan well and give priority to their children’s education,”
Simotwo said.

Simotwo said it is disheartening to see students sent home because of unpaid fees, noting that such disruptions negatively affect their academic progress.

“The education of many students is interrupted after parents overspend, and this should not happen. Education must remain at the top of every family’s priority list,” added Simotwo.

The minister also outlined some of the steps taken by the county government to improve education standards, saying they are working closely with various stakeholders to strengthen learning across the region.

Church leaders have echoed the same sentiments, urging parents to set aside school fees in advance as they prepare for the new academic year.
