Parents in the Embobong area of Narok County have voiced serious concerns over the long distance their children travel to access education.

Led by community leaders Mary Silantoi and Rebecca Naisho, parents revealed that the nearest school, Enaresirasia Primary, is located about 20 kilometers from their village.

Speaking to journalists, Mary Silantoi expressed deep frustration with the situation. “The distance to school has discouraged many learners from attending regularly. It’s not just about inconvenience — our children are also exposed to security risks, including the threat of attacks along the way,” she said.

Rebecca Naisho added, “Our children often have to wait until they are at least 10 years old before they can start school. This is unacceptable and is hindering their future.”

The parents accused local leaders of neglecting their pleas. “Instead of addressing our concerns, our leaders have been more interested in politics,” said Silantoi. The community is now urging the both the County and national governments to urgently step in and prioritize the education needs of their children.

In a related development, Narok County Commissioner Kipkech Lotiatia has underscored the critical importance of the upcoming national exams. Speaking in the Sogoo area, Lotiatia urged all stakeholders to give the exams top priority.

“The integrity of our national exams must be protected. Anyone caught engaging in exam theft or distributing fake exam papers will face severe consequences,” the commissioner warned.

He emphasized the broader negative impact of such malpractices, stating, “Exam cheating undermines our education system and cheats honest students of their future. I call upon everyone involved to work together to eradicate this vice once and for all.”

Lotiatia concluded by wishing all students success in their exams, urging them to focus on their studies and uphold academic honesty.
