A Form Three student from Friends School Poroko in Narok County has earned a coveted spot in Kenya’s national Rugby 7s team that will represent the country in the upcoming African Youth Olympics Championship.
Laban Manguti, a rising rugby talent, was selected following an outstanding performance during the national youth trials organized by the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU). His selection has brought immense pride and joy to the school community and the entire Narok County sporting fraternity.
Speaking after receiving the news, Principal Tito Musyoki congratulated the student for his discipline, resilience, and commitment to excellence. “Laban’s achievement is a testament to hard work and determination. He has not only lifted the name of Friends School Poroko but also inspired many of his peers to believe that great dreams can be achieved through effort and focus,” said Musyoki.

The African Youth Olympics Championship will kick off in Angola from December 10th to 20th, 2025, before moving to Senegal in January 2026 and Kuwait (Middle East) in February 2026. The tournament will bring together top young rugby players from across Africa, offering them an international platform to showcase their talent.
Friends School Poroko has pledged full support for Laban’s preparation ahead of the championship, describing his success as a proud moment for the institution. The school has also reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing both academic and sporting excellence among its students.
The Kenya Rugby Union has lauded such achievements, noting that the identification and development of young players like Laban Manguti are key to building a strong future for Kenya’s rugby.
Laban is expected to join the national training camp later this year as Kenya intensifies preparations for the continental event.
