Narok County starts distributing food to flood victims

Narok County Deputy Governor (DG) Tamalinye Koech has kicked off a food distribution exercise to families affected by floods who sought refuge at St Peters Primary School.

Roads and Transport CECM John Gatua assured the public that the dams around Narok town are safe and have outlets.

This was in response to fear that had gripped residents that the dams would burst and sweep off the whole town.

He said that both the national and county governments are monitoring the dams from morning to evening to ensure that they are not posing any danger.

Daniel Ole Sankale, who is the Township Location chief, called on the residents to report any incidents related to floods, thanking partners like Kenya Red Cross, NEMA and NCA, which have supported the victims since the floods began.

Disaster Management Chief Officer Malvin Nkoitoi said it is imperative that all citizens heed the flood warnings issued by both county and national authorities.

All residents are advised to stay away from flooded rivers and those living in low lying areas to move to higher ground to prevent further loss of lives and to promptly seek assistance if in distress through the emergency toll free line 0800 722 984.
