Narok County distributes 50,000 ECDE teaching and learning materials worth Ksh 24 million

Deputy Governor Tamalinye Koech flags off distribution of 50,000 ECDE books and guides to 985 centers across Narok’s 30 wards.

The County Government of Narok has launched the distribution of over 50,000 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) learning and teaching materials to all 985 ECDE centres across the 30 wards.

The materials were flagged off by County Deputy Governor Tamalinye Koech.

The teaching and learning materials have been produced by the Kenya Literature Bureau (KLB) for use by pre-primary learners in Narok County and funded by the county government at a cost of Ksh 24,463,820.

The materials include curriculum designs, learners’ books, and teachers’ guides for Primary 1 (PP1) and Primary 2 (PP2).

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor noted that the initiative was first conceptualised in 2023 with an aim of providing quality foundational education to all ECDE learners across the county.

The DG emphasised the county government’s commitment to retooling and continuous capacity building for ECDE teachers in order to strengthen the delivery of quality pre-primary education.

CECM for Education’s Robert Simotwo noted that equipping public ECDE centres with curriculum designs and instructional materials by the county government will significantly reduce the learner-to-book ratio from the current 1:6 to the target ratio of 1:1.

KLB Sales Manager Justin Koech stated that the revised and rationalised books are aligned with the current curriculum and syllabus, adding that the partnership has enhanced the visibility of Narok County’s investments in education.
