Narok Amalo, Bomet East champions eye county glory after dominant sub-county performances

Champions from Narok Amalo and Bomet East sub-counties have shifted focus to the next level after commanding performances in their respective secondary school games, promising to build on their momentum as they head into the county championships.

At Rongena Grounds in Narok Amalo, Rongena secondary school underlinedits growing dominance in handball by clinching both the boys’ and girls’ titles.

The double triumph highlighted the school’s depth, discipline and structured preparation.

School principal Paul Soi praised his players for their commitment and teamwork, saying the victories were a reward for consistency in training and good discipline on and off the court.

“Our focus now shifts to the county games. We want to improve on our performance and compete strongly at the Rift Valley regional level,” said Soi.

In basketball, Oloomirani High School emerged as a rising force in the boys’ category.

Guided by coach Nick Kirui and backed by principal Stephen Mutai, the team demonstrated tactical discipline and squad depth that could prove crucial at the county stage.

Kirui noted that while winning at the sub-county level was encouraging, the team is now focusing on improving coordination, fitness, and mental strength ahead of the Narok County games, scheduled for Narok High School.

Sub-County Secondary Schools Sports Association secretary and also the Narok County secretary, Jacob Basurei, urged schools to meet the Ministry of Education deadline for registering students on the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) portal by February 22 to avoid eligibility challenges during the county competitions.

Meanwhile, in Bomet East, the games ushered in a shift in the balance of power. Mogomo Secondary School dethroned established champions Siwot Secondary School 8-7 in the boys’ handball contest, a breakthrough that head coach and principal Mark Sang described as a product of resilience and belief.

“This win gives the boys confidence that they can compete at a higher level. Now we prepare for the county challenge,” said Sang.

In the girls’ category, Lekimbo Secondary School signalled a new chapter by overcoming long-time rivals Korara Secondary School after learning from an earlier defeat in the preliminaries.

They beat them 7-6 in the finals.

Coach Wilson Korir and the school principal said the victory was built on tactical adjustments and mental strength.

“The girls showed maturity and determination. We are now focused on carrying that spirit into the county games,” he said.

In girls’ basketball, St Benedict Kapkimolwa Secondary School beat Siwot Secondary School 20-14 to defend the title.

Coach Tobias Kemboi lauded his players for playing according to his instructions, which yielded results.

In boys’ side, host Mulot beat their arch -rivals and former champions Longisa Boys High School 50-27 to the title.
