“When it comes to school fees, students from needy families are the most affected. By offering these students bursaries, they are able to compete with their counterparts from able families,” he pointed out.
He said he engaged administration officers to identified deserving children, whose cheques will be sent directly to their schools to avoid any form of corruption that might crop up.
While lauding banks for sponsoring children from needy families, he hit out at tea companies in the area for failing to give back to the community in terms of supporting education.
Kitur also cautioned school heads against sending students home for fees, further appealing for cooperation among stakeholders to attain excellence in learning institutions located in the area.
“A school’s performance is dependent on the coordination between the principal, teachers and parents. I am ready to give 100 per cent support to schools that will perform extremely well,” he said.
