The County Government of Nandi has disbursed Ksh 74 million in bursaries to support secondary school students and learners with special needs under its first cohort of recipients.
Speaking during the bursary launch, Governor Stephen Sang said a total of 7,911 students will benefit from the program.
He emphasized the significance of the initiative, saying, “This is more than just financial aid; it is an investment in dreams, opportunities, and a brighter, more inclusive future for our children.”
Meanwhile, parents appreciated the release of the bursary fund; however appeal for increased allocation to cater for the increased number of students in need of the school fees and the rising cost of education.
Led by Jane Limo from Soba/Songhor, the parents said the funds disbursed are too little to meet school fees requirements.

Speaking in Kapsabet town, Limo, however, lauded the county government for releasing the funds, saying they had almost lost hope of ever receiving them.
“We appreciate the county for finally releasing the bursaries. However, the amount given is quite small, and it can barely cover school expenses,” she said.
Limo urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity and focus on their education. “As parents, we are ready to play our role, but our children must also remain committed to their studies,” she added.
Another parent, Mary Kemboi from Ndalat, called for timely disbursement of the bursaries, noting that delays negatively affect students’ learning.
“The delays have been very frustrating. Some children were even sent home for fees while waiting for the funds,” Kemboi said.
The delay in disbursing bursaries was reportedly caused by a court case that temporarily blocked counties from issuing the funds.
