Less than four weeks after exiting the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), immediate former CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia is poised to make a comeback to public service—this time at the county level.
Murang’a Governor Dr. Irungu Kang’ata has nominated Dr. Macharia as the Chairperson of the Murang’a County Public Service Board, marking a significant transition from national education leadership to county governance. The nomination was officially communicated to the County Assembly via a letter dated June 10, 2025.
The announcement was made on the floor of the County Assembly, with the Speaker noting, “Honourable Members, I wish to issue the following message from H.E. the Governor, Dr. Irungu Kangata,” before reading out the list of nominees to the influential board.
Macharia will be joined on the board by Dr. Louis Mwende Musikali, Johnson Kang’ethe Kinyua, and Dr. Brian Lishenga Makamu as members. At the same time, Oscar Kimani Gathura has been nominated as the board’s Secretary.

The nomination now heads to the Governance, Labour and Social Welfare, and Justice and Legal Affairs Committee, which has been tasked with conducting vetting hearings and submitting a report to the County Assembly within 21 days from June 17.
If approved, Macharia will be responsible for overseeing public service human resource functions for Murang’a County, including recruitment, performance management, and discipline of civil servants.
Dr Macharia’s quick nomination after leaving her decade-long leadership at TSC underscores her continued influence in the public sector.
The Assembly now awaits the vetting process to determine the suitability of each nominee, after which a final decision will be made.
