Nambale Constituency has taken a major step toward hosting its own Constituent College after the local NG-CDF office signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST).
The agreement, signed on Monday at the JOOUST Nambale Learning Centre, is expected to breathe new life into the campus and gradually transition it into a full-fledged college. The development is being hailed as a potential game-changer for higher education in Busia County.
Nambale MP Geoffrey Mulanya, who presided over the ceremony, said the partnership would transform the academic landscape of the constituency.
“This initiative is about investing in the future of our youth and laying the groundwork for the social and economic growth of our community. A Constituent College in Nambale will not only enhance access to quality education but also position our constituency as a key player in the national education landscape,” Mulanya said.

The event was graced by JOOUST Vice Chancellor Prof. Emily Achieng Akuno, who reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to supporting the revival of the Nambale centre. She noted that expanding access to education in rural areas was a key mandate of the university.
Also present was John Sakwa Bunyasi, the immediate former MP for Nambale, who attended as chief guest. Bunyasi commended the initiative, saying it built on long-standing community aspirations to make higher education more accessible to local students.
Stakeholders, education leaders, and members of the public turned out in large numbers to witness the signing. Many described the pact as a turning point that could open doors for thousands of learners who often face financial and logistical hurdles in pursuing university studies outside the constituency.

Former Mp Bunyasi added that the establishment of a Constituent College would not only serve academic purposes but also stimulate economic growth by creating jobs and attracting investment to the area. Small businesses, housing, and transport sectors are expected to benefit once the campus is fully operational.
If successful, the Nambale Constituent College would become one of the few higher learning institutions in Busia County, placing the constituency at the centre of the region’s educational development.
