Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Ltd official has been arraigned in court for allegedly using a forged academic certificate to fraudulently secure public employment.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) revealed that Teresia Chepkemoi, a revenue collection assistant at the water company presented a forged Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate, purporting it to be a genuine document issued by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) to seek employment.
This enabled her to secure employment at the water body and subsequently earn salaries and benefits amounting to Ksh7.59 million.
Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) approved charges against the accused.

They charges include; fraudulent acquisition of public property contrary to Section 45(1) (a), as read with Section 48(1) of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, 2003, deceiving a principal contrary to Section 41(2), as read with Section 48 of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, 2003, forgery contrary to Section 345 as read with Section 349 of the Penal Code, Cap 63 Laws of Kenya, and presenting a false document (forged certificate) contrary to Section 44(b)(4) of the Kenya National Examinations Council Act, 2012.
The suspect was processed at the Integrity Centre Police Station and later arraigned before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court, where she denied the charges. The Court granted her release on a cash bail of Ksh100,000 or an alternative bond of Ksh500,000.
