NACADA urges students to join fight against drug abuse

National Campaign Against Drug Abuse (NACADA) has urged learners to be the agents of change in society by shunning drug abuse and joining the fight against the vice.

Speaking to students at St. Paul’s Gekano Secondary School in Nyamira County, NACADA ambassador Peter Kariuki asked the students to think critically before making decisions and weigh on the consequences they will bring upon themselves and those around them.

He urged them not to succumb to peer pressure.

The officer highlighted the effects of abusing drugs like impaired judgement and the lifelong impacts on their health.

“A sick body cannot concentrate on academic matters therefore it is upon you to choose between success and doom,” he challenged the students.

He asked the school Deputy Principals to be keen on wayward learners and direct them to the Guidance and Counseling departments for early remedies.

He lauded the institution for embracing Christian principles and instilling discipline among the learners.

Gekano Boys High School Deputy Principal Mr. Evans Mogere agreed that discipline in schools is achieved through coordinated effort.

He said that their school works in collaboration with different institutions like the Ministry of Health, Culture and Social services to instill moral values in the learners.
