The Principal Secretary for University Education and Research, Ambassador. Simon Nabukwesi,  has  lauded Friends School Kamusinga Boys for bouncing back to the top ten best performing schools in the country after it flopped back to position 22 in the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

Speaking at the school premises, PS Nabukwesi said that the school has revived its lost glory asking parents, teachers, the community and the support staff to continue supporting the school and move to a better position in future.

He was addressing parents, education stakeholders and students during a funds drive.

PS Simon Nabukwesi is an alumni of Friends school Kamusinga and BOM chairman.

Nabukwesi said that the school has a huge population and there is a need to improve the available resources so that they can serve students better.

“When we talk of Kamusinga Boys national school then we are talking about big people in the country, this school needs structures so that students can enjoy an environment and be focused to get higher grades to join Universities of their choice, “Nabukwesi said.

Nabukwesi thanked the school principal Alex Kariuki for making sure that the school bounces back to the top performance list in the country asking him to use the same tactics in this year’s KCSE examinations to see that Kamusinga moves to a top position.

He added that last the school has flopped to position 22 arguing that as the school management was very bored about it but this year they are very happy because it has bounced back to the top ten brackets.

However, Nabukwesi urged old school’s alumni to go back to their schools and support them to perform better.

“Let’s support our schools to have good infrastructures so that learners can enjoy the environment to deliver,” he said, urging students to double their efforts saying that this year’s education calendar is very short.

“This year’s education schedule is very short and if you don’t double our efforts you may end up not achieving our set goals, let work as a team and hit our set targets and make Kamusinga a better place for the future generations,” he said.

Alex Kariuki, the school principal noted   that the school was established in 1956 as a single stream but it has grown to greater heights because of its exemplary performance adding that the school has a population of 1,800 students.

Kariuki pointed out in 2021 KCSE examinations the school registered 389 students who sat for the exam and out of them 365 students were able to get C + (plus) and above.

He said that the school got a mean score of 9.6221 which represents 94.5 percent.

He said that with the 100 percent transition the school needs to raise KS 180M to complete the Storey dormitory which is in use, build a multi-purpose hall and a social hall that only holds 800 students.

In addition, Kariuki said that the school does well in co- curriculum activities and also the school offers the three sciences (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) as the compulsory subjects with an aim of producing engineers.
