Kasevi Primary School teacher in Kivou location of Mwingi Central, Kitui County escaped death narrowly after his eye was stabbed and his jawbone broken by people well known to him last month.

Joseph Mutati, a BOM teacher was attacked on April 26 on his way home from school. He is the second to be attacked in the same school after another teacher and her daughter were torched in their house at night three months ago.

Mutati who has since become disabled in his youthful age, was overpowered by his attackers who stabbed him on his left eye with an unknown object. In the process they broke his jawbone. They further robbed him of money and two mobile phones.

“I was rushed to hospital by a good Samaritan but referred to Machakos Level 5 hospital and later to PCEA Thogoto. I was taken to theatre where my eye was removed. They also discovered my left jawbone was broken as well. I’m still under medication for my eye and jawbone,” said Mutati.

The victim is fearing for his life as the suspects are still at large. He has a young family and doesn’t know how to feed them in his condition.

Walking has been a challenge to him and he got confused after the beatings more so on his head.

His father Peter Mwendwa said his son was attacked allegedly by the same hired goons who burned a female teacher of the same school and her daughter at their home.

“Security officers should move quickly and arrests the culprits. We don’t know who is next. These goons are well known and they have been mentioned in several other heinous acts. The locals are all living in fear,” he added.

A local educationist Julius Mutukaa appealed to TSC to consider employing the teacher on permanent terms and under disability category. He expressed fear that the security in the area is questionable and called upon the relevant authority to act fast.

“I also urge the residents to be patient as the security team pursues the suspects,” Mutukaa said.

Mwingi Central subcounty deputy police commander Nicholas Mutua said investigations are ongoing and the culprits will soon be arrested.
