Learning has resumed at Mwihila Boys Senior School in Khwisero Sub-County following a week-long disruption sparked by student protests over the 2025 KCSE examination results.

The unrest, which saw learners demand justice for what they termed “unfair grades,” forced the outgoing principal, Mourice Ajulu, to vacate the institution after his attempts to calm the situation failed.

The demonstrations began when students insisted that last year’s candidates be issued with their “real grades,” claiming the results released by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) did not reflect their performance.

“We are discouraged with KCSE results because of the grades we have never scored, and we appeal for our case to be heard,” said one of the affected candidates.

According to sources, the school administration appealed to KNEC, but no changes have been made to the results. Students argued that their strong performance from Form One to Form Four, including consistent grade A scores in most subjects, made the KCSE outcome shocking and unacceptable.

Despite the tension, no property was destroyed during the strike. The protest lasted for a week before learners were instructed to return to class.

The transition to new leadership has now taken place, with a new principal assuming office. Although he declined to be named, the principal dismissed the allegations of unfair grading and pledged to restore confidence in the school’s academic standards. “We will ensure this year’s candidates disprove the claims by scoring quality grades,” he said.
