Musingu coach Brendan Mwinamo urges focus after assistant Cliftone Lugalia joins Kakamega School, intensifying Western Region football rivalry.

Musingu High School head coach Brendan Mwinamo has responded calmly to the departure of his assistant coach Cliftone Lugalia, who recently joined Kakamega School, insisting that his attention remains firmly on preparations for upcoming competitions.

Lugalia’s switch to Kakamega School has stirred conversation within Western Region school football circles, given the historic rivalry between Kakamega and Musingu High School.

The move has been widely viewed as a tactical boost for the Green Commandos ahead of the term two games.

However, Mwinamo has downplayed the drama, choosing instead to emphasise unity and performance within his camp.

“There has been a lot of talk on social media about Cliff joining our rivals, Kakamega School. From my side, I can only wish him all the best. I know him well, and I believe he is fully capable of achieving great things at Kakamega. I was once there as a student before later serving as their coach. For now, my full focus is on the second-term games, and I still strongly believe my boys have what it takes to conquer the nation during the Term Two ball games,” Mwinamo said.

His remarks reflect both respect for his former colleague and confidence in the current Musingu squad, which he believes remains competitive despite the changes to the technical bench.

The departure of Lugalia, a CAF C–licensed coach and English Literature teacher, is seen as a notable loss for Musingu, particularly in areas of tactical organisation and defensive structure.

He is expected to strengthen Kakamega School’s already formidable football program, which has long dominated national school games.

Despite the setback, Mwinamo’s message signals stability and focus within the Musingu camp as they prepare for a renewed showdown with their archrivals.

The anticipated clash between the two institutions now carries added intrigue, with former allies set to meet on opposite sides of one of Kenya’s most intense school football rivalries.

As the season approaches, all eyes will be on whether Mwinamo’s confidence translates into results on the pitch.
