Musingu Boys’ football final curse strikes again as Bukedea lift FEASSSA title

Musingu Boys suffer third straight heartbreak as football final curse continues.

For the third time in two years, Musingu High School’s dream of lifting a major football title ended in heartbreak this afternoon, as they fell 1-2 to Bukedea Comprehensive of Uganda in the final of the FEASSSA Boys’ Football Championship at Moi Stadium, Kisumu.

The Scorpions struck first in the opening half, igniting hopes of finally breaking their unlucky streak in the finals. But Bukedea responded almost immediately with an equaliser before halftime.

Musingu pressed hard for another breakthrough, but it was the Ugandan side who found the decisive goal, leaving Musingu chasing shadows until the final whistle.

This loss adds another painful chapter to Musingu’s recent history of near misses. Just last month, they fell 0-1 to St. Joseph’s Boys Kitale (Jobo) in the KSSSA national final in Mumias, to the disappointment of their travelling fans. In 2023, they were edged out on penalties by Highway Secondary in Kisii, once again losing the national trophy at the final hurdle.

In last year’s FEASSSA tournament, they salvaged some pride by finishing third. However, expectations this year were sky-high after edging Jobo 4-3 on penalties in a thrilling semifinal.

The road to today’s final was not without drama. Yesterday’s semifinal clash at Bukhungu Stadium was abandoned in stoppage time after fans invaded the pitch to celebrate Musingu’s last-minute equaliser against Jobo, leaving the opposing goalkeeper injured. The match was forced to resume this morning at Moi Stadium, where Musingu sealed their spot in the final through a penalty shootout.

But the joy of that victory proved short-lived, as Bukedea’s tactical discipline and clinical finishing denied Brendan Mwinamo’s boys the continental crown.

Musingu’s struggles at the last stage of major tournaments have become a bitter pattern.

Bukedea’s win, highlights Uganda’s growing dominance in school football at the regional level.

For Musingu, the search for redemption continues as they look ahead to another campaign with the weight of expectations still heavy on their shoulders.
