Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has issued a stern warning over the rising cases of defilement in Bomet County, vowing tough action against perpetrators and those who attempt to settle such criminal cases out of court.
Speaking during an economic empowerment drive under the Konoin 5-Star CBO spearheaded by Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei at Ngererit Primary School, Mogosiek ward in Bomet county, Murkomen described the trend as alarming and unacceptable.
“Defilement cases in Bomet are too high. We will not allow offenders to sort out these serious crimes through informal arrangements. Anyone found culpable must face the full force of the law,” Murkomen declared.
The CS called on chiefs, assistant chiefs and all security agencies in the region to act firmly and ensure all reported cases are investigated and prosecuted without interference. He warned that any administrator or officer found complicit in shielding offenders would face disciplinary action.

Murkomen urged members of the public to break the culture of silence and report cases promptly, emphasizing that protecting children is a shared responsibility.
He also cautioned the youth against engaging in drug and alcohol abuse, noting that substance abuse is contributing to moral decay and rising cases of crime in society.
The empowerment event attracted hundreds of residents and leaders from the region, raising a total of Sh13 million to support youth groups, women groups and small-scale traders under the Konoin 5-Star CBO initiative.
Senator Sigei said the programme is aimed at strengthening grassroots businesses and enhancing household incomes.
“This empowerment is a deliberate step toward recognizing and supporting their hustle. By equipping these groups with resources and opportunities, we are not just boosting individual businesses, but strengthening entire households, building a more resilient economy and creating more opportunities for others,” Sigei said.

Sigei further cautioned residents to remain vigilant during the ongoing rainy season, warning of potential floods in vulnerable areas. The senator urged parents to ensure their children are safe, especially when walking to school or playing near rivers.
“We must be wary of floods during this rainy season. Parents have a responsibility to make sure their children are safe,” Sigei said.
