Residents in Ongata Rongai have called for government intervention after a private school teacher was murdered in cold blood by armed gangsters who have been terrorizing locals of late.

The teacher, identified as Mr. Mbuvi, was murdered by the robbers late last week along Forest Road, behind Tuskys area in Nkaimurunya Ward before escaping with his valuables.

School bus drivers have also been victims of the spiking violent robberies as they pick up vehicles from schools early in the morning.

Ole Sakuda Road in Magenche, Kimani Road, Thorn Tree, Forest Road, the road opposite Stimvak area, Olerai and St. Mary’s have been marked as danger zones as mugging incidents are reported daily.

The criminals, who use motorbikes and roll in groups of three, are believed to hail from the Kware slums and are armed with crude weapons.

Earlier, a victim who was attacked outside Wamboi Flats along Ole Sakuda road was left with serious injuries and was admitted in hospital for a week.

What residents are questioning is how the criminals are attacking them outside a flat that houses police officers.

“I was attacked and no one came out to rescue me not even the police who live around, the Rongai Police patrol ends at 11 pm and is poorly coordinated,” lamented the victim.

Deputy Inspector General of Kenya Police Douglas Kanja Kirocho, who opened the Gataka Police post last month, warned underperforming officers in Kajiado North of disciplinary action but nothing has changed so far.

Fred Abuga, in an open letter to Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki over runaway insecurity in the area, claims that despite several meetings held with traumatized residents to come up with a raft of measures and means of combating the menace, nothing tangible or substantive has materialized so far.

“It’s pertinent and imperative to note that it’s the core duty and responsibility of a responsive government to take care of the property and lives of the citizens of this great Republic as envisioned and guaranteed under our Constitution,” the letter read in part.
