A storm is brewing in the education sector as teachers in Murang’a, under the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), prepare to take to the streets on Monday, August 4, 2025, for a peaceful protest and media address in Kenol Town.
The tutors are contesting “uncertain and felonious KUPPET deductions (KUPPET-SWAL)” from their July 2025 pay slips.
The protest is being organised by Thomas Kimani W., the Executive Secretary of KUPPET Murang’a Branch, and Salim Suleiman M., the Branch Chairperson, who officially notified the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Kenol Police Station in a letter dated July 30.

In the notice, they wrote: “This is to notify you that teachers in Murang’a who are members of KUPPET MURANGA BRANCH, wish to hold a peaceful procession and media address in Kenol town… to air their grievance on the uncertain and felonious KUPPET deductions (KUPPET-SWAL) from their pay slips in July.”
The protest, described as peaceful, will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., starting at Kimorori Grounds and proceeding through County Supermarket and Rubis Petrol Station, before heading to Golden Palm Hotel and back.
The union leaders assured the authorities of their peaceful intentions, stating: “We commit to being decent, organised and peaceful during and after our procession and address.”
The OCS responded with a handwritten note acknowledging the letter and providing procedural guidance: “Received. Noted. OCS. Advise them to give 3 days’ notice.”
Additionally, an endorsement on the document confirms the demonstration is to proceed on: “Monday, August 4, 2025.”
