The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has cancelled the Murang’a Branch elections that were scheduled to take place on January 17, 2026, following a court injunction issued by the Employment and Labour Relations Court (ELRC) in Nairobi.

In a memo dated January 16, KUPPET Secretary General Akelo Misori formally notified all Murang’a KUPPET members that the planned branch elections would not proceed as earlier scheduled.

The directive was issued through the Executive Secretary of the Murang’a KUPPET branch.

According to the memo, the cancellation follows court orders issued on January 9, in ELRC Cause No. E001 of 2026, filed by Davis Nyamweya Omosa versus the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) and the Secretary General.

The court orders expressly injuncted the conduct of the said elections.

KUPPET stated that, in compliance with the court ruling and in observance of the rule of law, the branch will not conduct any election-related activities on the affected date.

Members have been advised not to attend any election events until further directions are issued by the court.

“The union urges all members to remain calm, united and patient as we await further guidance,” the memo reads, emphasizing the need for order and adherence to legal processes during the period of uncertainty.

A copy of the court order has been attached to the memo for members’ reference, underscoring the seriousness of the directive and the union’s commitment to lawful conduct.

The development comes amid heightened interest in branch leadership contests within teachers’ unions across the country, with legal challenges increasingly shaping internal electoral processes.

KUPPET has assured members that it will communicate promptly once the court provides further directions on the way forward.
