The State Department of Housing has officially handed over the site for the construction of new hostels at Mungatsi Technical and Vocational College (TVC), a move expected to transform student accommodation in Nambale constituency.

The project, championed by Nambale MP Geoffrey Mulanya, will deliver 85 modern hostel units, each accommodating 4 students, for a total capacity of 340 students. The hostels are designed to provide a safe, comfortable, and conducive learning environment, addressing the growing demand for student housing in the region.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, MP Mulanya said the project demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure. “Quality accommodation is essential for academic success. These hostels will ensure students focus on learning in a secure and supportive environment,” he said.

Economic and Educational Impact of the Hostels Project

The initiative is also expected to boost local economic activity.

Construction works are set to create jobs for residents, while the operational phase may generate further employment opportunities, benefiting the surrounding community through the hostels development.

The ceremony was attended by Nambale Constituency officials, representatives from the National Government Administration led by ACC, Busia County Director of Housing Dickson Abuga, the Principal of Mungatsi TVC, project consultants, and other key stakeholders.

Project consultants assured that the hostels would feature modern amenities, prioritising both student comfort and safety. Once completed, the accommodation will not only enhance the educational experience at Mungatsi TVC but also serve as a model for future student housing projects in the county.

“The development of these hostels is a milestone for education in Nambale. It is a clear signal that we are investing in the future of our youth,” MP Mulanya added.
