Mukumu Girls’ phased reopening ends today as form ones report

Mukumu reopens reporting

Today marks the end of the phased reopening at Sacred Heart Mukumu Girls High school with the reporting of Form one students.

The administration expressed its delight as nearly all students in Forms four, three and two had turned up by yesterday evening, save for the three who succumbed to the strange stomach illness that broke out in the school last month.

“Over 1,500 of our girls are back in school and we are equally confident that all Form ones will report back,” said Principal Jane Mmbone.

She said they had prepared the learners well and that studies had already resumed.

Mmbone said the school will now focus more on academics and spiritual nourishment to ensure the students and teachers heal from the health crisis that forced the institution to close down.

“We are so excited because the students and teachers are raring to go. The Form fours have promised to excel in this year’s KCSE examinations in honour of their teacher and three colleagues,” she said.

The school, located in Shinyalu constituency, was shut down last month after hundreds of students fell. Health experts attributed the malady to consumption of toxic maize and water.

The crisis led to the transfer of the then Principal Fridah Ndolo and dissolution of the Board of Management.
