Mukumu Girls, Butere Boys to receive Ksh 40M for fresh food, repairs

President Ruto has directed the Ministry of Education to disburse Ksh40 million to Butere Boys and Mukumu Girls high schools following the outbreak of a strange ailment that hit the two learning institutions leading to their closure last week, Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu has said.

While visiting the school on Saturday, Machogu said that the former will receive Ksh20 million while the latter will get Ksh5 million for procurement of fresh food and repairs.

Butere Boys students were sent home indefinitely after more than 100 students complained of stomach irritation that led to diarrhoea and vomiting while Mukumu Girls has so far lost three students and a teacher who succumbed to the illness said to have been caused by E. coli and Salmonella Typhi bacteria.

He added that Butere Boys will be added another Ksh 15 million in the next financial year because they require a total Ksh 35 million to put up dormitories in the school.

“We understand that the students of Butere are very much congested hence the need for more dormitories to be built in the school,” the CS said.

Machogu added that the government has begun construction of a new borehole at Mukumu Girls and installation of a water purification system at a cost of Ksh6 million.
