Muhoroni MP Onyango Koyoo has announced that a vocational institution will be set up in order to cater for those who do not qualify to join universities.
“It will be called Ndinya TVC in honour of an educationist from the area who was at one time the Principal of the Kisumu Technical High School,” he said.
Koyoo said the move is important given the current policy from the 8-4-4 system of education to the Competence Based Curriculum.
He added that his focus will now shift to empowering technical and vocational education centres in the area.
Koyoo said they will now refocus to equipping TVETs in his constituency.
The legislator said they therefore intend to sponsor more TVET students moving forward.
Koyoo speaking at the Chemelil Academy during the 7th annual education retreat for Muhoroni NG-CDF fully sponsored students.

Koyoo said he did not lose his focus during his time in school despite the hardships he underwent during his formative years and asked the students to be humble.
He said humility is needed to succeed in life.
The MP said schools’ Board of Managements should also do their best and not sit pretty.
Kisumu Central MP Dr Joshua Oron who was present said challenges should not be a hindrance to the success of any student.
Dr Oron similarly said he went through hardships during his early days.
Biggest equaliser
He said education is the biggest equaliser asking the students to take studies seriously.
The NG-CDF chairman Bernard Del told learners to work for power of the brain.
Sub County Director of Education Rebecca Maritim and George Ombok KESSHA chairman Muhoroni vowed to support Koyoo achieve his goals for the constituents.
Maritim said that parents should support the initiative.
Joseph Ogwang, a community representative thanked the MP for the gesture saying he is a direct beneficiary of the scheme since his son graduated from Technical University in Mombasa and is now an engineer.

Lowel Ochieng, who was a student at Egerton University, thanked Koyoo for doing a lot in their academic careers.
Stella Onyango, a second year KMTC student pursuing diploma in Pharmacy and in second year thanked Koyoo for the gesture.

He lauded the MP for the move adding that more students should be considered.
Faith Otieno, a form one student at Lugulu Girls High School commended the MP for the gesture saying he has eased their burden.
A parent Felix Owuor said the future of his child was grim before the MP was elected.
Owuor said the lawmaker has opened closed doors adding that they are proud.
