Msisinenyi Primary school in Chawia ward of Mwatate sub-county, Taita Taveta county has been feted as the best performing public primary school in Chawia Zone in the 2022 KCPE examinations.

The school emerged position one out of the 22 public primary schools in the zone with a mean score of 288 marks out of the possible 500 marks.

Speaking during the Zone Education and Prize Giving Day held at the school on Friday, the Kenya Primary Schools Headteachers Association (KEPSHA) area chairperson Onesmus Mzee lauded top performing schools and stated that the ward had the best performance in the county.

Mzee said that Junior Secondary Schools (JSSs) are doing well noting that they currently have 6 books for six different subjects and that by the end of the term the schools will receive the remaining books.

“To the county government, while setting your plans ensure that you include us in infrastructure development and moreso ensure that all JSS schools have laboratories,” he said.

His sentiments were echoed by the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Taita Taveta branch Executive Secretary Lenox Mshila who added that there is need for parents and teachers to work together to ensure pupils get better results.

“I beseech you parents, let’s love and work closely with our teachers. There are many ways to go about when things aren’t working well in our schools. Going to a school and locking a teacher out because you don’t want him/her will not help but deny your child their right to education,” he said.

Mwatate Sub County Director of Education (SCDE) Madam Fatuma Omara called on parents to ensure that they provide pupils with what they need to facilitate their academic journey.

Guest of honor and County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Libraries and Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) Gloria Monikombo congratulated the students and teachers for their stellar performance and vowed to ensure that the county continues working together with education stakeholders for better performance.

She urged parents enroll their children to VTCs to acquire practical skills in technical fields to get leverage in the job market and earn a living.

Monikombo said that following the national government’s plans to introduce industrial parks in counties across the country, it is important for the youth to consider joining the institutions to be in a better position to work in the industrial parks when actualized.

In the Chawia Zone 2022 KCPE rankings, Mwambura Primary was position two with a mean score of 287 marks followed by Wusi Primary with a mean score of 285 marks and Sino Girls Primary with a mean score of 284 marks.
