The National Assembly Select Committee on the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) has recommended an increase in budgetary allocations to enhance learning infrastructure in Junior Secondary Schools, (JSS)

The Committee, chaired by Eldama Ravine MP Musa Sirma, made the recommendation during an inspection tour of various school infrastructure projects in Nairobi.

Public school infrastructure construction and maintenance are among the key projects supported through the NG-CDF. These include classroom blocks constructed under a Ksh 1billion allocation specifically designated for Junior Secondary Schools in the capital.

During the visit, the Committee inspected facilities in several constituencies, including Westlands, Dagoretti South, Lang’ata, and Kibra.

In Westlands, area MP Timothy Wanyonyi joined the team at Westlands Primary School. In Dagoretti South, MP John Kiarie accompanied the Committee during visits to Ndurarua and Kinyanjui Road Primary Schools.

Kibra MP Peter Orero hosted the Committee at Ayany Primary School, where members inspected newly constructed classroom blocks and reviewed ongoing construction works.

In Lang’ata, the Committee visited Madaraka Primary School to inspect a newly built science laboratory and a classroom block.

Sirma noted that many of the schools, particularly in densely populated areas, require additional facilities to ease congestion and improve teaching efficiency.

“I saw a classroom with more than 90 students. That is overwhelming for both learners and teachers. We need to make the learning environment more manageable and effective,” said  Sirma.
