The Parliamentary Education Committee has commended the government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the education sector, following the recent allocation of substantial funding in the 2025/26 national budget.
Committee member and Chesumei MP Paul Byego expressed confidence that the government’s prioritisation of education is evident through the increased budgetary allocation, which he described as a bold step toward improving learning outcomes nationwide.
“Education remains at the heart of national development, and I am pleased that the government has once again demonstrated this by allocating the largest share of the budget to the sector,” said Byego during a forum in Chesumei constituency.
Byego further noted that the education sector has witnessed positive transformation under the Kenya Kwanza administration, attributing the progress to sound leadership and enhanced funding.

He assured Kenyans of the government’s commitment to addressing key challenges in the sector, including teacher recruitment, improving school infrastructure, and the timely disbursement of capitation funds.
“We are keen on ensuring that every government education programme succeeds. The committee is actively engaged in oversight and support to guarantee efficient implementation,” he added.
The remarks come amid heightened expectations from stakeholders across the education landscape, who are hopeful that the new budget will ease long-standing challenges and create a more conducive learning environment in public institutions.
The education sector secured Sh702.7 billion, accounting for 28 per cent of the total expenditure of Sh4.29 trillion.
This is Sh44.5 billion more than the Sh656.6 billion allocated in the 2024–25 financial year, which accounted for 27.6 per cent of the total expenditure of Sh3.92 trillion.
