MPs Fred Ikana and Benard Shinali are lobbying for the expansion and upgrade of schools and colleges in their respective constituencies to improve academic performance.

Ikana of Shinyalu and Shinali of Ikolomani held a meeting with the Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu this morning during which they agreed to have institutions in the constituencies given a facelift that would lead to their elevation.

“We discussed ways of collaborating with the Ministry of Education so as to improve academic standards in our constituencies. This includes upgrading some to new statuses,” said Ikana.

The two leaders pointed out that their main focus was to expand and modernize some of the institutions, help them acquire more land and title deeds, buses to ease transportation and address the shortage of teachers.

“The funds we receive through NG-CDF are not sufficient to develop our education institutions and disburse bursaries to the disserving cases. We, thus, need partnerships, and the line Ministry comes in handy,” said Shinali.

The duo pointed out that the CS and his two Principal Secretaries, Belio Kipsang and Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, assured them of their support.

They said their main focus was the construction of a Technical Training College in Ileho, Shinyalu, and the completion of the Kenya Medical Training College at Iguhu in Ikolomani.

“We also have other institutions of higher learning such as Eregi Teachers Training College, Sigalagala National Polytechnic, and Bushiangala Technical Training College which need expansion and upgrade,” said Ikana.

“We also have scholarship and fellowship opportunities, besides bursaries directly from the ministry and other donors. This needs friendships and partnerships,” added Shinali.

Ikana hailed the CS over his timely intervention that solved a major health crisis at Sacred Heart Mukumu Girls that is located in his constituency.
