MP warns contractors against constructing poor quality infrastructure

Ainamoi Constituency will not sanction construction of low quality infrastructure in schools and other facilities, area Member of Parliament (MP) Benjamin Lang’at has said.

The MP revealed that requirements had been enhanced to make sure contractors only built high standard facilities that were safe for pupils.

The legislator who was speaking during a working tour of Koikaron Koibeyot and Chemakaldit Primary Schools in Kapsaos Ward cautioned that any contractor delivering sub-standard building will not be paid, and the Board of Management (BoM) that awarded and supervised the construction works will also be answerable.

“We are tired of contractors building shoddy classrooms and other facilities. Going forward we insist on high standard buildings that are tiled and electrical wiring done professionally. The Ainamoi NG-CDF will not allow payment of poor quality work that may endanger the lives of our children,” he said.

Speaking while in the company of Kapsaos Member of County Assembly (MCA) Paul Bii he urged the boards to supervise the works carefully to avoid fraud.

Lang’at promised to construct modern ablution blocks for the schools to cater for the needs of staff and teachers.

During the tour, the MP donated Ksh3.3 million courtesy of the Ainamoi NG-CDF whereby each of the three schools received Ksh1.1 million each for the construction of modern classrooms.

The legislator affirmed his support for the school feeding programme saying it was helpful for children from humble backgrounds while also saving essential time for learners residing in far-off areas.

Because of scarcity of school land, the MP said that through the NG-CDF, they will be assisted to buy more land to enable expansion.

MCA Bii said he will construct and fully equip an Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) centre for each of the three schools.
