MP wants chaplains employed in schools

By Asa Maina

The Ministry of Education should employ chaplains in all schools to offer spiritual help to student as a way of stemming raising indiscipline cases, Othaya Member of Parliament Gichuki Mugambi has said.
“Schools need chaplains where children can go to confess and seek help to change,” he said. The MP was speaking at Birithia Girls Secondary School in Othaya during the Prize Giving Day recently. He said the chaplain should be a person with training on guiding and counseling.
“Some of the children have been brought up by single parents, either father or mother, and they lack people to offer guidance,” he observed.
The MP disagreed with those claiming the unrest and arson in schools are as a result of fear saying underlying issues that ought to be addressed include drug abuse.
