MP vows to fight for return of NGCDF kitty to develop schools

By Enock Okong’o

South Mugirango Constituency MP Silvanus Osoro has promised to fight for the return of the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) which was recently ruled as unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.

Osoro who doubles as the parliamentary Chief Whip said that he will introduce a motion in the parliament to either bring back the kitty which he said was instrumental in construction of school infrastructure in the area.

“The money was good for development of schools because it was a model of devolved funds,” he said.

The legislator was speaking at Ikoba Primary school where he commissioned three classrooms.

He said that the classrooms which costed Ksh.3 Million were constructed through the NG-CDF money which were an addition to another two classrooms built in the school in 2020.

Osoro also promised to work with the County government and other education stakeholders to improve education standards in the region.

He said that his office had improved most of the infrastructure in the area schools and had bought buses for each school to facilitate smooth commuting of students to and from school.

The legislator then asked the county to provided piped water to the schools whose students walked for long distances looking for basic commodity hence wasting a lot of time that would otherwise be used in class.

Osoro further asked fellow politicians to approach education matters with sober minds instead of politicking for the sake of garnering political mileage.

“Education is an institution that will remain here and affect many generations to come. When we change it we must do it with a lot intellectual insight,” he cautioned.

The outspoken politician appealed to those who lost in the August elections to join hands with those who are in power for the sake of developing the constituency.

He concluded by appealing to parents to create an enabling environment for their children’s growth and development by providing them with essential basic needs.
