MP urges TSC to employ local teachers

By Michael Oduor

Voi Member of Parliament (MP) Khamis Chome has called upon the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to employ local teachers before extending to external teachers.

Speaking in Voi town during the Jamhuri Day Celebrations, the MP urged the youths in the county who have been registered by TSC to apply for the 274 slots open for application in the county.

“I urge Taita Taveta youths to apply for the job. For those doing the selection, please do not import teachers before filling the 274 slots with Taita Taveta teachers,” said Chome.

The Legislator noted that there are enough registered teachers working under Boards of Management (BoM) saying that it was their time to be employed.

“We have enough teachers who are registered by TSC. They are working under BoMs. It is their time to get this opportunity,” said the MP.

Chome reiterated that it was discouraging to have teachers working under BoMs for over 10 years but when it comes to employment, the opportunities are given to teachers from outside the county.

“It is not fair. Until we fill these positions with teachers from the county, that is when we can share them out with other Kenyans,” he added.

TSC has advertised vacancies for the employment of 35,550 teachers for both public primary and secondary schools across the country.

According to the Commission, 10,000 of the teachers will be employed on permanent pensionable terms while 25,550 will be intern teachers.
