Seme MP Dr. James Nyikal has urged the government to streamline conflicting education policies.
Speaking during Mama Kezia Oyucho’s burial in Kisumu Nyikal highlighted the need for cohesive planning in the education sector.
Nyikal noted that sporadic policy implementation causes confusion in programs like delocalization, localization, competency-based curriculum, and new university funding models.
Nyikal criticized the government’s delay in absorbing intern teachers and advocates for a swift process within months of engagement.
He emphasized Parliament’s role in establishing criteria for hardship areas, ensuring fair allocation of teachers without compromising regions.
Misori urged the government to allocate funds for hiring Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers engaged in internships, emphasizing the need for additional teaching staff.
Otieno pledged KNUT’s commitment to pursuing a collective bargaining agreement, advocating for improved pay and timely promotions for teachers who have stagnated for years.
He emphasized the one-year employment timeline for all interns.
Also present were KUPPET Secretary General Akello Misori, TSC Chairman Jamleck Moturi, KNUT Deputy Secretary General Hezbone Otieno, and other education officials.
