Bureti Member of Parliament Kibet Komingoi has called on the national government to urgently release the remaining capitation funds to schools.
Komingoi warned that continued delays are crippling operations in learning institutions across the country.
Speaking during a public event in his constituency, he said the delayed disbursement has pushed some schools to the brink of closure, with many resorting to sending students home for school fees.
“The delay in releasing capitation funds is seriously affecting the running of our schools. Some institutions are barely managing to stay open, and many have already started sending students home, which is undermining learning,” said Komingoi.
He urged the Ministry of Education to prioritise the release of the remaining 20 per cent of the third-term capitation funds, echoing concerns raised by secondary school heads nationwide.
“We cannot expect quality education when schools are starved of resources. The government must treat this as a matter of urgency,” he added.

The MP also took issue with the current procurement laws, describing them as restrictive and unfair to many local contractors. He called for a review of procurement procedures to ensure fairness and inclusivity in awarding contracts.
“The current procurement system is punitive. We need to amend the law so that all contractors, including local ones, have equal opportunities to participate in tenders,” said Komingoi.
Komingoi further reiterated his commitment to improving education infrastructure in Bureti, saying his office had already allocated funds toward upgrading facilities in schools across the region.
“We are committed to transforming the learning environment for our children. Funds have already been set aside to ensure that our schools are well equipped and conducive for learning,” he affirmed.
His remarks come as school heads continue to raise alarm over the financial strain caused by the delayed capitation funds. Many warn that unless the funds are released soon, they may have no choice but to send students home or suspend critical operations.
