Masinga Member of parliament MP, Joshua Mwalyo has threatened to ensure all non performing principals in his constituency are transferred.

Mwalyo noted that he is not satisfied about the performance of most schools in his area.

He observed that common causes of the plummeting performance is absentee school heads and students being sent home for fees every now and then.

“I am aware that most schools in his heads leave school and go to attend to their business there’s no way you can be away from school and expect to perform well, a school is as good as its principal,” he said.

He advised principals to find an alternative approach to ensure students stay in school and their fee is paid.

Mwalyo who spoke while issuing bursaries observed that  after this year any school that will not have shown improvement then he will have to ensure the principal is transferred.

“I am giving you this year only and if your school does not show improvement then be sure you will be out of Masinga,”he said.

In response Machakos county KESSHA chair Stephen Kavuvu expressed his disappointment in the lawmaker’s speech.

He observed that it’s unfair for him to compare schools yet they have different capabilities.

Kavuvu noted that during the county education day all lawmakers from the county  did not show up thus questioning their interest in education.

He downplayed the threats by the lawmaker stating that Mwalyo is not a staffing officer and has no business threatening teachers with transfers.

“We have officers who monitor results and are doing their job and the MP should not threaten principals . No school can perform when the principal is under duress,” he noted.

“If Mwalyo is really interested in performance he should call for a stakeholders’ meeting and let the teachers tell of their challenges and find ways of solving them,” concluded Kavuvu.
