Kilgoris Member of Parliament, MP Julius Sunkuli, has called on parents in the region to enroll their children in public schools, citing affordability and the government’s efforts to improve education infrastructure.
Speaking during the official opening of two new classrooms at Osinoni Primary School, Sunkuli emphasized that public schools offer an accessible and cost-effective option for many families struggling with school fees.
“There is great importance in taking our children to public schools because the cost is significantly lower,” said Sunkuli. “We are working hard to ensure that every child, regardless of their background, has access to quality education.”
The MP further revealed that the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NGCDF) office in Kilgoris is set to increase the number of desks and learning materials in local schools as part of ongoing efforts to boost enrollment and learning conditions.
“We will continue equipping our schools with the necessary facilities. The future of our children depends on how much we invest in their education today,” he added.
Sunkuli reiterated his commitment to improving education standards in Kilgoris, urging all stakeholders to collaborate toward a shared goal of educational development.

“This is not a one-man show. We need parents, teachers, leaders, and community members to work together if we are to see meaningful change,” he noted.
Education levels in the Kilgoris area in Narok County continue to face significant challenges, with primary and secondary school enrollment rates historically lagging behind both provincial and national averages.
Contributing factors include poverty, limited infrastructure, and cultural practices such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), which disproportionately affect girls’ access to education.
Despite these obstacles, efforts by the Narok County government are underway to improve the situation. These include increasing bursary allocations, constructing new educational facilities, and promoting adult education programs to uplift the community.
During the same event, Osinoni Primary School’s Deputy Headteacher, Nabiki Tiyo, urged parents to support teachers and stay engaged in their children’s education.
“We are asking parents to work closely with teachers and attend school meetings when called. Parental involvement greatly boosts students’ performance,” said Tiyo.
As the education sector in Kilgoris continues to evolve, leaders remain hopeful that collaborative efforts will turn the tide and ensure more children can attend school and complete their education.
