MP raises red flag over poor education standards

Tigania East MP Gichunge Kabeabea has raised the red flag over the poor education standards in the area and vowed to work harmoniously with all the education stakeholders in a bid to improve the academic performance.
He regretted that the constituency performed very poorly in last year national examination where it emerged last in the entire Meru County and called for concerted efforts from all the education stakeholders in order to revise the trend.
Kabeabea said drunkenness among teachers and parents which makes both of them irresponsible leading to the absconding of duty, poor leadership and lack of political goodwill from his predecessor, demotivated teachers, the selling and consumption of illicit brews and drugs in the area are to blame for the declining education standards.
The legislator also blamed famine forcing residents and especially learners to rely on relief food, cattle rustling, betting machines where some teachers and students waste precious time gambling instead of studying, corrupt provincial administrators with some protecting those operating gambling machines or selling illicit brews and drugs, riding boda boda instead of going to school and lack of commitment by teacher for the downward trend.
Meanwhile, Kabeabea has told students in high school to stop wasting valuable education time in romance and writing love letters and instead focus on their studies.
He said that many boys in high school waste a lot of time writing love letters to their girlfriends and end up failing in their collective role of raising education standards in the constituency.
