Baringo Central Member of Parliament (MP) Joshua Kandie has promised to increase bursary allocation per sub location to Shs 1 million if re-elected.
Speaking while issuing out Shs 38 million National Government Constituency Development Funds (NG-CDF) bursary cheques at the constituency office in Kabarnet town, Kandie said that the current bursary allocation is Shs 800,000 per sub location from Shs 300,000 that was being issued when he got into power.
“It’s my prayer that by 2027, the bursary allocations will be between Shs 1.8 million to 2 million per sub-location” Kandie said.
He also expressed confidence that he is sure he will get the money to increase the allocation.
He said his personal desire is to ensure every child in the constituency accesses education.
He further expressed commitment to identify big sub locations with more kids to ensure the areas receive higher funding to cater for the education of every child.
Kandie said he engages in politics devoid of deceit and that he can deliver as a leader.
Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) Baringo Chairman Isaac Kibokong lauded Kandie for his plan to increase school bursaries.
The Riwo Day Secondary School principal said that so far, 3,316 needy secondary school students have benefited from the NG-CDF bursary in the constituency.
He appealed that the bursary should continue sponsoring bright students to pursue their careers both locally and internationally.
He urged parents to educate their children saying the best investment in life is educating a child.
Baringo Technical College principal Josphat Kipkemboi thanked the MP for giving the institution Shs 1.2 million to install a solar-powered warm bathing system in the institution.
“Kandie has been so supportive to our college. In partnership with his pro-Kapsogo German friends, he has donated practical equipment worth Shs 30 million,” he said.
An elder David Chesaro from Baringo Central expressed concern over low child birth in the constituency saying that the government was paying school fees to school children yet very few were attending nursery schools.
His sentiments were disputed by the Sub-county Deputy Commissioner Reuben Ratemo who urged mothers to go for contraceptives to control births.
He also lauded the MP for his education agenda.
