Kilifi North MP Owen Baya has pledged to build a national secondary school in his constituency estimated to cost more than Sh100 million before the end of his term as the area legislator.
“I plan to put up a national secondary school in this constituency with funds from the CDF”, he said.
Baya who is a former lecturer at Pwani University said that the institution would absorb students from all parts of the country and boost cohesion and unity in the country at large.
Speaking during the Kilifi North Constituency Education Day meeting at Kilifi Township Secondary school, he lamented that parents of Kilifi Township owed the institution more than Sh5 million in the form of school fees.
Expressing concern that many schools do not have desks, Baya added that he would ensure that no child sat on the floor due to lack of desks.
“To start with I will provide 1,000 desks in some schools by August this year before embarking on constructing tuition blocks. I want to reduce the burden of pupils trekking a distance of 5 kilometre to reach the schools,” he said.
