MP pledges continued support for education programmes

Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera (infront) interacts with Bishop Njenga students as its principal Marciana Cheti looks on.

Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera has said he will continue offering education programmes in his constituency to have as many elites as possible in future.

Addressing parents and teachers during the Annual General Meeting of Arch Bishop Njenga Girls High School, the first term MP said it is important to invest in education for the benefit of the next generation.

Nabwera, who has embarked on a scholarship programme for bright needy students within the constituency, stated that the initiative has been a success with huge numbers of learners benefitting.

“I started this scholarship after realizing that there were many bright students from vulnerable families missing out on education due to lack of school fees,”  he said.

He at the same time lauded the management of Bishop Njenga for leading in the 2023 KCSE exams with over 200 students gaining university entry.

He expressed his gratitude for the enhancement in the number of high quality grades recorded in the constituency since he assumed leadership.

“This achievement is a result of the collaborative efforts of our teachers, parents, education stakeholders and students,” he observed.

Speaking a day later at his home coming ceremony, the MP faulted the government for its failure to release school capitation on time, forcing principals to go an extra mile in maintaining students in school.

“This country is not serious on education and it has subjected principals to more harsh working conditions,” he said, asking the government to ensure equity in education through efficient release of all capitation funds owed schools.
