MP pays fees for 80 diploma teachers at Bondo TTC

80 students from Bondo Teachers Training College (TTC) have received a payment of Shs 800,000 from Bondo Member of Parliament Dr Gideon Ochanda.

The legislator visited the institution where he saw the challenges experienced by the 80 students who are part of the 300 P1 certificate teachers who are upgrading to diploma level over the next nine months.

The total fee for a diploma student for the entire course is Shs 66,000. Each student will benefit from 10,000 shillings courtesy of the Bondo MP.

Referring to the recent reforms concerning the fate of TTIs in the education sector, the MP said the ministry of education is ill prepared.

“There’s a general problem with how the transition in the education system is being managed,” noted Ochanda.

He argued that the trainees had cleared the first teacher training course and are certified /registered as teachers by the TSC.

He added that most of the teachers in the program had been working in schools under employment of various BOMs hence retraining was an extra burden to the teachers.

In Nyanza region, all TTCs have been closed for the last three years except for Migori TTC.

Currently, institutions are admitting students for the Diploma courses after the long closure.
