Tharaka Constituency Member of Parliament, (MP) Gitonga Murugara has encouraged parents to consider enrolling their children in local schools, citing improved academic performance and sustained investment in education infrastructure.
Speaking while congratulating candidates on their performance in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Examinations, Murugara said his office remains committed to disbursing bursaries early to allow learners adequate time to focus on their studies without disruptions caused by school fees arrears.
The legislator, who has declared his intention to vie for the Tharaka Nithi gubernatorial seat in 2027, said he was impressed by the strong performance posted by emerging schools that have previously attracted little attention.
He singled out Kaiga Kamwe, Matakiri and Gakuuri secondary schools as institutions that recorded notable improvement in the latest KCSE results.
Murugara said education will remain a key priority, noting that his office will continue to improve learning infrastructure across the constituency to enhance outcomes and boost student performance.

“We will continue investing in modern education facilities, including new classrooms, administration blocks and well-equipped laboratories, to create a conducive learning environment for our students,” he said.
He noted that the performance of Day Secondary Schools in the constituency has significantly improved, arguing that such institutions should no longer be looked down upon.
According to the MP, several day schools have outperformed some long-established boarding schools, challenging the long-held perception that quality education is only found in so-called “giant” institutions.
“Many people have been comparing day secondary schools to admitting students with low or average grades while established schools take the best. The results now show that quality learning is possible everywhere,” Murugara said.
He added that his office has already initiated a programme to upgrade day schools to enable them to accommodate Grade 10 learners under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Murugara further said his scholarship programme continues to support bright but vulnerable students, ensuring they secure placements in established schools such as Tharaka Boys, Chiakariga, Nkondi, Marimanti, Gatunga, Kabuabua and Muguna Aana.
He attributed the improved performance to the dedication of teachers and learners, saying it reflects a growing commitment to education within the constituency.
