Kiambu Member of Parliament, MP Machua Waithaka has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening education across the constituency following a series of consultative meetings with school leaders and stakeholders drawn from both secondary and primary institutions.
In a meeting with principals of all day secondary schools in the constituency, Waithaka led discussions on key issues affecting learning institutions, including academic performance, operational challenges, infrastructure development and the implementation of the Free Day Secondary School programme. He emphasized that all day secondary schools in the constituency remain free of charge, a move aimed at making education affordable and accessible to every learner regardless of their background.
The MP noted a significant rise in the number of students from day secondary schools who have qualified for university admission this year, describing the trend as a strong indicator that education-focused interventions being rolled out are beginning to bear fruit.

“This growth in university admissions shows that when we invest deliberately in education, the results speak for themselves,” Waithaka said, reiterating that education remains a central pillar of his development agenda.
The meeting was attended by education officers led by the Sub-County Director of Education, Paul Kigaya, all secondary school principals, representatives from the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) and Tap to Eat programme officials.
In a separate engagement, the legislator also met primary school headteachers from across the constituency to review academic performance, infrastructure needs and ways of enhancing collaboration to improve education standards.

Beyond policy discussions, Waithaka highlighted ongoing and completed infrastructure projects aimed at creating safe and conducive learning environments. At Riabai Primary School, construction of a perimeter wall and a modern gate is nearing completion, significantly improving security for pupils and teachers. Gabions have also been installed in erosion-prone areas to protect the school environment.
The MP noted that the project has deliberately employed local residents, ensuring that school development initiatives also translate into economic empowerment for the surrounding community.
He added that the next phase of development at Riabai Primary School will include comprehensive classroom renovations, cabro paving across the compound, construction of new ablution blocks and landscaping to enhance safety and cleanliness.
Ndumberi Primary School has also recorded major milestones, becoming the sixth institution in the constituency to be fully solar-powered and 100 per cent off-grid.

In addition to solar installation, Ndumberi Primary School has undergone extensive infrastructure upgrades, including full classroom renovations and tiling, cabro paving, construction of a perimeter wall with a modern gate, and establishment of a fully equipped Junior Secondary School laboratory to support practical learning under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Waithaka said the investment in renewable energy and modern facilities guarantees uninterrupted learning, lowers electricity costs and promotes environmental sustainability. He added that well-lit classrooms, powered ICT labs and improved security directly contribute
“Strengthening our education sector remains a top priority. Together with all stakeholders, we will continue working to create a better learning environment and brighter future for our children,” Waithaka said.
He concluded by reiterating his development mantra, “Yangu Ni Kazi Tu,” pledging continued delivery on education, youth empowerment and sustainable development across Kiambu.
