MP Launches Distribution of Foodstuff to Schools in a Multi-Billion Lunch Programme

Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka has launched distribution of foodstuff to primary schools and day secondary schools in his constituency to enable them feed the learners.

The Member of Parliament said the multi-million food programme was meant to sustain learners in various day schools.

“We launched this annual lunch programme three years ago and have so far spent over Sh100 million. Our main objective is to keep our children in school,” he said.

The legislator said the initiative had greatly improved academic standards in the constituency as learners from especially humble family backgrounds were no longer worried about lunch.

The foodstuff included maize, beans, cooking oil, sugar and salt.

“Many of our children hail from families that cannot afford three meals in a day. Some can only afford supper which is not even sufficient. So we felt we should cushion them by ensuring they have some porridge in the morning and lunch,” he said.

Aseka added that he sourced the foodstuff using funds from his Aseka Miradi Foundation.

The legislator has also offered full scholarships to all the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education candidates who secured admissions to national and extra-county schools while providing bursaries to the rest.
