Baringo North Member of Parliament (MP) Joseph Makilap has lauded Ossen and Ruth Kiptui Girls Secondary school senior Principals Mrs Edith Koech and Monica Michichi respectively for their efforts in provision of quality education in their schools.

Speaking at Ruth Kiptui Girls’ Thanksgiving-cum-Prayer day for 2022 candidates, Makilap promised his support in terms of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocations for infrastructural development.

He assured principals in his constituency that CDF was there to stay.

“I want to tell naysayers against CDF that it is there to stay. We are lawmakers hence we will amend the NG-CDF 2015 act to ensure that it is back to continue with the noble job it had begun,” he said.

He said that the kitty had assisted children from humble backgrounds to access education.

The legislator further called on schools’ Boards of Management to be good stewards and utilize the funds for the intended purposes.

“I want to warn any committee that will misappropriate the funds that they shall face the full force of the law,” added Makilap

The MP expressed support for the recently appointed Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) review task force.

“I call upon the appointed task force to critically review the system. Remember there are children who have been in class for the last six years, where will they go? Let’s ensure that we arrive at a win win solution,” noted the MP.

Speaking on the same through phone, Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) Baringo welcomed the appointment of the task force.

The Branch Chairman Mr David Kibet said the new curriculum was implemented without consultation from key stakeholders.

“The CBC curriculum had frustrated teachers as they had not trained,” added Kibet.

The Chairman said that parents were also a frustrated lot as they could not assist their children with assignments due its complexity.
